Leisure Soccer @ East Coast Park Cage

Hi all,

Augustus has taken the time off his studies to kindly help us book the Cage @ East Coast Park on the 23rdof Dec, Sunday from 3pm to 5pm. The pitch is ideal for 5 a-side. We are looking for at least 15 people to make up for 3 teams of 5 each for the 2 hours non-stop game.

Should we unable to get 15 turn-outs from our team, we will get our friends to join in as well. The fee is $180, hopefully we could get a discount when we see Augustus's cousin there. Who, in our team, has the best bargaining power? Wee Hian? haha

Anyway, response for Sunday's kick-about at Bishan Park has been very poor; hopefully we could play once or twice there when our players' exams are over. Its been few weeks since we last kick a ball!!! The next kick-about will be on the 23rd Nov. Do let me know if you are able to make it. Will send out the SMS this Friday.

Good luck for the exams! Its finishing soon, endure!!!

P.S Augustus, heres your chance to score goal like crazy! hahaha

Outrageous Skill

End of Season Message

Hi all

Finally a win after few consecutive defeats, we ended our 2008 season with a 3-2 win over SmackDat FC. Just when I thought the turn-out would be one of the highest, it appeared that we were again struggling with 1 sub. Nevertheless, we did manage to hang on our lead despite playing through injuries. Good job! Great spirit!

Firstly, lets welcome 3 new players to our small squad. The addition of our young keeper Jack, defender Simon and the midfielder Royden will definitely add some steel to our team. As known to all, the criteria to join our team is pretty simple. No need fancy skills and technique, just love to kick football, have passion for it and most important is the commitment to play every Sunday. Feel free to voice your opinions, comments etc as this is team employs a democracy system.

Secondly, this is with regards to our "no match day" on Sunday. As previously proposed, whenever there is no match on Sunday, we would gather at Bishan Park 1 for a small kick-about among ourselves. The inaugural kick-about would begin next Sunday 3pm at the field. Trust me, playing against each other and playing against other team are hell of a difference. Other than the fun, we are able to understand how each other plays which will definitely yield good results to our team play in matches.

Last but not least, all of you guys are invited to our Team FATA chalet cum BBQ on the 2nd of Jan 09 at Sentosa Costa Sand. It will be a 2D1N thingy, all are welcome to stay over. As specially requested by Wee Hian, everyone of us are to bring a date on that day. Ok just joking. No obligation but all are allowed to bring your other half, your partner, your gf, your spouse, your wife, or even the one you fancy one along to the chalet. We will do a headcount few weeks before the chalet to consolidated the heads for the dinner.

Thank you.

Best Regards

First Half (4-4-2)

1st up, we finally break the streak! Ended the season on a high! Good job! Weather was humid and it looks like it’s going to rain any minute. Our opponents look intimidating (as usual).

A couple of changes to the side as Jack’s friend fill in the right mid role while Simon slots in at left back pushing JH up to left mid. Roy partner CJ in the middle of the park. We started off on the stronger foot with JH straight away charging down a back pass to keeper, with an empty net at his mercy Collin’s shot was blocked by some last ditch defending. After a few probing through balls finally one make it onside for Joel to put in the 1st goal of the game. We pinned them back for the most of the 1st half with our 2 battling center mids and score the 2nd eventually from Joel, assisted by Collin; his 1st ever assist. Unfortunately, they took their chance on a lucky break get one back before half-time.

Second Half (4-4-2)
Collin Joel
Cedric Cong Jin Jin Hao Marcus
Simon Wee Hian Sean Augustus
Jack

They decided to attack us in the 2nd half and put more attacking players in. But we managed to get the crucial 3rd goal with some nice work by Joel down the right, leaving his marker to cramp while he squares the ball to Collin for an easy tap in. Then things start going downhill with Roy’s knee sprained. JH was the one and only sub at that time so he had no choice but to play through the pain in his aggravated injured hip in the 1st half. They were throwing everything inside the box by then and got a 2nd goal but we held on and secured the victory to end the losing streak.

We found out that Sean and Wee Hian have a great understanding in their center defensive partnership. Roy is good at center mid which provides another option. Jack’s friend at right mid looks comfortable enough. Simon has yet to find his best position.

Joke of the day – Wee Hian kicking the ball into the construction yard.

Winter break till Jan, see you guys at bishan park!

Happy Deepavali 2008!

Enjoy your public holiday tomorrow. Sometimes, it ain't bad to be living in a multi-racial country huh. Anyway today marked the end of Team FATA's last game for season 2008 due to exams period and holiday period in Dec. However, we cannot stop kicking ball can we? We will start our Sunday afternoon kick-about at Bishan Park 1 starting next week onwards.

Introduction of WAG Policy

Introduced by Beckham and Posh, WAG is known as "Wives & Girlfriends". While England manager Fabio Capello had ditched the WAG policy for England's future games, Team FATA is hereby encouraging its players to bring their WAGs to matches to foster a great relationship among one another.

They will have the honor of being in our team lineup (see above). As an incentive to the player who brings his WAG to the game, he will get a free kiss from his WAG when the whistle blow. (keke)

Team FATA Vs Team Elites (Match Cancelled)

Match against Team Elites was canceled due to rain, unfortunately. However, 7 of the siao ginna whose legs itched like siao agreed to play some leisure soccer under the heavy rain at Bishan Park. Though we never made it for the match, we still enjoyed the small kick-about at Bishan Park when it was down-pouring. All of us agreed that its been a long time since we last did something so insane, THIS IS MADNESS!

If you are interested who were the siao ginna, they were Matthew, Zhen Hui, Wee Hian, Augustus, Amos, Cong Jin and Collin.

This week marks another low turn out yet again for our team due to injuries. With our 2 1st team fullbacks injured and only 3 subs, we were stretched to the max in the 2nd half.

We begin the match confidently. Stroking the ball around and to the flanks. There’s one throw in which went short to Kenneth and he sends it in to Jinhao but due to a confusion of someone shouting ‘stop play’, he just stood there looking like a lost lamb. We had a lot of corners which were wasted due to poor delivery. Its time to find a set piece taker whom can put dangerous balls in everytime. In the 30th minute Galvin got hold of a loose ball and seeing space, he burst forward and squares it to Collin for an easy tap in. Seriously he averages a goal every match. After a random chase down of the opponent Galvin seems to have aggravated his old injury. And that’s when the opponent hit back with a goal just before half time.

2nd half was a mess. They got the early goal and our team seems to be demoralized by it. After one of their lucky through ball break through, they just flooded our defense with players and scores on the counter. The 3rd goal happens because of the miscommunication between Jinhao and Jack. Jack didn’t shout for the ball or Jinhao didn’t hear it, so Jinhao tried to put it out but instead the ball hit Jack and they get the loose ball to put it into the empty net. By now we were just pumping long balls up to chase hoping for a miracle but its not going to happen today. With so many walking wounded and a few debutants, our opponent surely got the upper hand with their unlimited subs.

The only threats are coming from Joel and Collin. Most of the match we were chasing down their through balls and closing down their players. Our left side is a major problem with no one seeming to fill in the roles. Right midfield was also not causing enough problems for our opponent. This is the lowest point, so next week will only get better. Time to end the streak!

Goalkeeper needed

Team FATA is currently looking for another goalkeeper as our current goalkeeper will be unavailable till end of year due to other commitment.

We usually play friendlies on Sunday afternoon, not restricted to any location in Singapore. Few criteria which we deemed is necessary in order to build a cohesive team here at Team FATA.

1) Age 20 - 25
2) Loves to play as goalkeeper
3) Chinese
4) Able to commit for friendlies most of the time (average of 3 times in a month)

Well, if you fits the criteria, we welcome you to send us a mail.

Cheers.

Amos Uncles Team 4 - 2 Team FATA

28 Jul 08 (St Wilfrid)
Amos Uncle Team 4
2 Team FATA

Collin X 2

One of the lowest turn out and one of the, if not the weakest linkup Team FATA ever fielded. Only 10 out of 20 Fatarians made it and we needed the help of 2 outside friends to make up the numbers. Real bad.

Anyway, it was a debut match for Qun Fa as he stands in between the post (I have to emphasis that this is not his primary position.. if not he will keep yelling at me!!).

First Half (4-4-1-1)
Collin
Galvin
Xiang Hui Siong Wei Amos Kenneth
Jin Hao Sean Zhen Hui Augustus
Qun Fa

The opponent began the first half strongly with most of us chasing shadows. We were into another dimension as they played really good flowing football, one of the better we ever played against. Making full use of the width at St Wilfrid, our players were exhausted by all the closing down and running, leaving the centre of the midfield empty at occasion. We went 1 goal down from a corner kick with about 20min into the game. They made it 2 nil soon after. Team FATA was demoralised greatly by their flowing football and we were practically chasing smoke in the first half.

Second Half (4-4-1-1)
Amos
Galvin
Qun Fa Siong Wei Collin Kenneth
Marcus Sean Zhen Hui Augustus
Xiang Hui

After some swift decision on the switching of players in the middle of the field between Amos and Collin, and with Siong Wei tasked to run an imaginary MRT track in the middle of the park, Team FATA finally gave their opponent a match. With Marcus (Collin's friend) coming in to strengthen the defense line as left-back, we looked more comfortable going forward. As mentioned always, the engine room lies in the centre of the park. With Galvin, Siong Wei and Collin communicating more often in the middle, we managed to gain control of the game in the early minutes.

A handballed by their defender gave Team FATA their second penalty kick. While William (GK) was not seen dashing all the way up from his goalkeeping line, Collin stepped up for the spot and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way. Minutes later, a crossfield ball from Marcus left Galvin beating the offside trap but only to hit the near post. It could have turned the game around! Nevertheless, we continued storming forward but found ourselves tracking back to cope with their long through ball. Our offside trap was beaten as they scored another to make it 3-1.

A good pressure by Qun Fa on the left flank gave us a corner kick. A short pass to Galvin before he made a cross in to find Collin unmarked just inside the penalty box. He leaped and gave a power header to head the ball into the far post, beyond the stretch of the keeper. 3-2. The match ended with 2-4 to Team FATA.

The bad
- Centre Midfield was empty on few occasions in the first half. We need a "lung less" midfield general to close down in opponent in the centre of the park. Anyone?
- We did not make full use of the width to pass the ball around.
- We need to try achieving the stage whereby there will be more than 2 players to pass the ball to whenever a player got the ball.
- A lack of experience proved deadly as the opponent scored a quick free kick when our wall and keeper were not ready.
- We need to pass the ball up to the midfield as our goalkeeper does not have a good goal kick.

The good
- Reasonably good debut for Qun Fa especially as an outfield player.
- Thumbs up to our centre backs Sean and Zhen Hui. They are staking a claim to Matthew and Wee Hian!
- The ever realiably Augustus is staking a claim to Zhen Hui for the right-back position! Kudos to Augustus for the constant shouting in the 2nd half which was badly needed in our team.

Updates

Wee Hian is arranging a match against his friend's team, Maestro FC, a team with Sunsports as well. Most probably it will be on 20th July. However, I might not be able to join you guys for this match as my post-marathon injury is still haunting me. Shall wait for Wee Hian to get back to us.

As for the match on the 27th against Amos Uncle team, the match is confirmed. 3pm kick-off at Punggol Sec Sch. It is within walking distance from Punggol MRT Station. The time to meet at the MRT is 2pm. Please let me know if you are coming for this match.

Our only 2 matches in the month of July, lets nick it!

Lastly, please give me your schedule for the month of August 08 (damn, time passed really fast).

Unknown Team 4 - 2 Team FATA

Team FATA was unavailable to make it 3 in a row when they met a strong team made up of foreigners. We were out-matched in every department; skills, passing, shooting, pace, physical etc.

It was an unfortunate lost. Firstly, the organiser told us this team was called up to replace the original team who could not make it last minute. Secondly, we have 4 players who could not make it to the match. The notice given was too short as we have to scramble for players. In the end, only 12 players turned up for the match; consisting of 3 non-fatarians.

The first half ended with Team FATA going 2-1 up. It was pure luck as we only have like 3 or 4 shots while the opponents have at least 7 or 8 shots. Possession wise, we have like 30-40%? First goal was a free kick taken by Jin Hao on the right flank. Miscue from all the players in front let the ball bounce through the defence before letting Collin unleashed a volley down the right post, passed the diving goalkeeper. Second goal was the magnificant Cong Jing who cooly went pass their central midfield before providing a through ball to our dear Amos. Calm and compose, he put the ball pass the goalkeeper. It was his debut goal.

Team FATA played a better first half compared to the second. As shown in previous few matches, Team FATA would normally go into the second half the better side as we would always have a better stamina. However, this time round, we lost out on pace and stamina. Their average age is somewhere around 30 to 35 I reckon. But their pace and stamina really stretch us to the max. Its been a long time we have been seen panting even at half time.

The good
- On average, our players' stamina has improved significantly particularly Amos and Kian Hock.
- On several ocassions, Amos had shown plenty of skills and pace beating 2 or 3 defenders at one time.
- Siong Wei gave a more commendable performance in the second half when he was deployed in the central midfield. Of course, you can argue that it is due to his street soccer boots. HAH

The bad
- Players should be reminded to inform me earlier should they be unable to make it. There was a total of 4 players who informed me 2 days prior to the match.

Sunsports Youth Team 1 - 3 Team FATA

22 Jun 08 (Fernvale)
Sunsports Youth Team 1
3 Team FATA

Collin X 3

Twelve Fatarians gathered at Fernvale field at around 2.45pm. One unexpected late comer was actually Joel Lau Chun Hee! Shall not state his reason here but its got to do with girl where he sent the girl to her workplace at Far East Plaza. Another guy who put aeroplane is Ryan Lai who until now has yet to get back to me.

After two matches against working adults, we finally met a much younger team (most of them should be in their Secondaries/Post high school, only some of which are adults).

Team FATA began the match looking lost as we allowed them to pass the ball around at ease. We were having trouble holding possessions and moving upfield. After a good 15 to 20min, we finally settled into the match, creating few opportunities. Most notable a low cross from Kenneth. The first touch by Collin (I can't possibly say "me" here right? lol) was good but his shot was straight at the keeper's hand.

Kian Hock finally started his debut match for Team FATA after a long injury in his lower back. He was deployed on the midfield left. He was seen lacking of pace and stamina on few occasions due to lacking of match fitness. However, he still displayed a commendable first half performance. On the other side of the flank deployed were Kenneth. An improved performance by Kenneth can be verified by his enthusiasm and galloping down the right flank taking on defenders before suppling the cross. However, he needs to improve on his cross when the ball is rolling fast.

Trying his luck, Zhen Hui smash a long clearance towards their goal line. As a striker, every chance to make the ball end up at the back of the net is possible. Collin gave chase to the ball even though it was a clear take by the defender. However, their centre-back did not take the first ball, only to let the ball bounce over his head. Collin capitalized on the mistake to try his luckin the air with the keeper seen rushing out. Their keeper did not managed to grab hold of the ball and it bounced into the back of the net. Team FATA went into the break leading 1 nil.

This time round, Team FATA dominated the opening of the second half where we have a good 15min possessions restricting them to their own half. Joel burst into the scene and got into the game immediately. He was deployed in his favorite position as an attacking mid. And he showed the rest what he is capable of. Non-stop running, dribbling, taking on defenders; coupled with a strong fighting spirit, he managed to create 2 assists to give Collin his first hat-trick.

Matthew started and ended the game as a centre-back for us. As highlighted to our players, our team is lacking of a pacy centre-back to cope with opponent's fast striker. I think we have solved that area. =D In spite of his build, Matthew showed his presence and composure throughout the game. With ocassionally dribbling up the centre field to join in the attack, he managed to recover fast enough back to our defence. A superb performance as a centre-back indeed!

The bad
- Foul play by one of their player. Unfortunately, its one of the Sunsports organiser where he was lucky on 2 ocassions to get away without a penalty for us. The first was the pulling of Collin's shirt in the penalty area where he was through on goal. The second of the tackle of Joel just inside the penalty box.
- Our centre midfield was seen empty on few occasions as pointed out by the centre-backs in the first half. We were playing 4-4-2 where Cong Jin and Jason were our centre mids. Lacking of a playmaker, Cong Jin was tasked to take on a more foreign attacking role. Come second half where the role was fulfilled by Joel, our midfield was seen more dominating with Cong Jin and Jason playing side by side moving the ball around.
- Jason did not cope with the high ball well with few ocassions where he should make use of his tall figure to get the first ball instead of using his leg.
- Ryan Lai's aeroplane putting.

The good
- Our players had an improved game compared to previous few matches. This can be easily understand as we are playing against a less physical team young team.
- Thumbs up for Zhen Hui for his never ending chasing and closing down their pacy forward. 2nd thumbs up for not making any sliding tackles which is always dangerous against pacy players.
- Again, credits to William, our ever reliable No.1 goalkeeper.
- Though Joel was late due to some reasons which we do not want to say (see the top), he exploded and tormented their defence with his pace and trickery. He sums up his 2nd half performance with 2 more assists under his belt.
- Despite being hit by the ball on the nose and caused some blood lost, Wee Hian finished the game with a big red nose.
- A nice dinner gathering of 7 Fatarians and Bella at Jalan Kayu.

Updates on our affiliation with Sunsports

Few players asked me for the procedure on getting friendlies, pitches and referees. So I might as well do a post here to share with you all, including any of our outside readers (Feel free to email us or use the tagboard on the right).

One of the easier way to get matches is through a medium that does all the organising for us. They would have a list of soccer teams, soccer fields and a few referees under their charge. From that, they would mix around and find a time slot to cater for all. While the main advantage is obviously the time and effort saved, the fee is a little higher compared to D.I.Y.

We have an affiliation with Sunsports in which both our previous and upcoming games are organised by them. Under their charge, they have 5 soccer fields, 2 at Fernvale, 2 at Katong and 1 at Mountbatten.

Now, if you do a search for "Team FATA" on their main page, you would find us under 2 different areas, "SunSports Super Champion League VI 2008 Sun PM GpA" and "SunSport Sports Club Friendly Games 2008". The former is a Sunday afternoon league while the latter is just friendly games. Do note that I rejected their request to join the league competition as it is not the time yet. Hence, we do not have to bother much about the league table found at the bottom of their page.

Additional note of this Sunday's game. If you scroll down right to the bottom of the page, you would find the table with Team FATA and Outside Utd (Our opponent this coming Sunday) inside. Now, take a look at Outside Utd's stats. 1 draw and 1 lost but with a goal difference of positive 3 goals? lol

As we might have a possible turn-out of more than 15 Fatarians, I am planning to have our 2nd dinner cum gathering at Jalan Kayu (Just few minutes walk from Fernvale). Standards may have dropped a little but their Roti Prata is still one of the best in Singapore.

Lets make a 2 wins in a row. Cheers :)

Jun Jie (Non-FATA)

Lots of pre-match arrangement issues arose just a day before our match. The SunSports organiser was requesting us to change to Katong field which I declined immediately due to inaccessible location and it was too last minute a decision to make. (It was midnight!). Then, they proposed to change the timing to 5pm which a few of my players could not oblige. Hence, I requested back to our agreed timing or the game is off. They obliged.

The venue was at Fernvale, just in front of Fernvale Pri Sch, near Jalan Kayu. It was the lowest attendance with only 8 Fatarians. In total, we brought 6 outside players into our team match. Out of which we have some really outstanding players.

Match kick-off at close to 4pm. Team FATA had an early goal courtesy of Joel with a through ball from Jun Jie (Jason's friend). Few minutes later, I took advantage of the miscommunication between their defender and keeper to make it two nil to Team FATA. Siong Wei, who previously had an injury on his left toe was caught by a sliding tackle from the opponent's centre-back (No. 11). He was replaced with Wayne coming into centre-back, Sean moved to the right wing. Towards the end of the first half I took a deliberate kick on my shin pad from their defender when I make a sliding tackle and caught their foot instead. Unprofessional player who should be slapped with a red card but referee did not see it I suppose. First half ended with Team FATA leading two nil. We did reasonably well in the first half.

Second half was more dramatic with our star goalkeeper William making few tremendous saves, putting his whole body on the line. Thumbs up, definitely a contender for Man of the Match. Our defence was still prone to high and long ball with our defenders failing to cope with the first ball. We were fortunate on few occasions when we were caught napping at the back but we centre back Wee Hian, Sean and Wayne managed to beat them with pace and body strength.

Goals came pouring in. A through ball from Jason put me on a chase towards their goalline, beating their last defender with pace before slotting the ball to the far post, beyond the stretch of the opposing keeper. Three nil. A lack of man-making and commanding figure allowed the opponent to make an easy shot from a corner kick. Minutes later, a header flick-on from Joel exposed their backline. I was body checked by their No. 11 but fortunately behind us came on the pacy Jun Jie to pick up the loose ball. One on one with the keeper, he made no mistake slotting the ball at the back of the net. Four is to one.

Tackles were seen flying in, most notably the one that caught Jason from behind. Immediate red card and good call from the ref. Minutes later, I was tackled from behind and pushed in the back during a cross in both by the same player, No.11. He was at it again when he bullied Joel into the corner flag before commiting a foul. Ref did not make any call.

The bad
- Opponent acted like hooligans instead of an amateur soccer player.
- Opponent reacted to tackles unprofessionally.
- Game was not played in a good sunday afternoon match manner and they should be ashamed of themselves.
- Our defence line is still not coping with high ball and through ball effectively.
- The centre of the park, which is deemed as the Engine Room, was not dominated by us in the second half. Our centre midfielders were seen missing at times.

The take
- Our players managed to keep their cool throughout the match (Hey I did! :P)
- Another experience gain when managing against tough and physical opponents
- Joel continued his goal streak and I ended my goal drought :)

Team SKC 6 - 5 Team FATA

Matthew X 3

Team FATA had their 2nd match on the 25th of May against Team SKC at Mango Field. Unfortunately, we lost out by a narrow goal margin.

Nevertheless, it was a good experience for the team as we met a team who won us by experience and perhaps a little help from the referee. Team SKC was made up of non-Chinese who were in their late twenties and thirties.

We began the first half with disarray and disorganisation. Particularly due to a new 4-5-1 formation and intimidation from the opponents. Within minutes, we found ourselves going down two goals. We picked ourselves up and managed to fight back to a 2-2 draw before going down again to 4-2 at half time.

Few substitutions were made, particularly the introducing of Matthew to provide more firepower up front. Team SKC were running low on their stamina as we increased the pace of the game. Still, we conceded 2 more goals when they managed to seen through our weak defence and exploit it with their pacy forward. A tactic of pumping long ball up and wide into our defence did severe damage to us. Matthew completed the game with a hat-trick and 45min under his belt; an important milestone for him.

To sum up the match, Team FATA lost out due to a few reasons. Firstly, match experience and tactics. Secondly, the rotation of players and deploying players out of position to fill up the gaps. And last but not least, we were blown offside for more than a dozen times, some of which were really uncalled for.

Though it was a lost, Team FATA can be glad that it was still a good game played compared to the previous match. It was a good exposure against a team of non-Chinese which proved that with good tactics, poor stamina is not an obstacle. Centre midfield; touted as a team's engine room proved too vital to be let loose. They deployed 2 centre midfielders who had good ball control and able to deliver long balls up front and wide of the field.

Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the dinner at Pastamania didn't we?
Branch Manager, "Can you guys separate into 2 groups?"
Team FATA, "No, we are a Team." :)

URGENT: Friendly Match on the 8th of June 3pm at Fernvale

Guys,

Things not looking good at the moment for the match on the 8th June. Currently there are only 9 players available for that day. And only 3 have yet to revert their availability; Ryan Lai, Ryan Chui and Kian Hock.

I doubt Kian Hock is able to last for the whole match, so if Ryan Lai and Ryan Chui could not make it for that day, can the rest who are not available, please see your schedule again and see if you can make it.

Thanks.

Match on the 8th of June 08 3pm

There will be another match on the 8th of June 08 3pm at Fernvale, opp of Fernvale Primary School. Need your replies asap to confirm the match.

I also got a few requests from other soccer team managers. So, please give me your reply whether you are able to make it for the rest of the Sundays in June; 15th, 22nd, 29th.

Unknown Team 0 - 3 Team FATA

Team FATA

Team FATA had their debut match on the 19th of May 08, Vesak Day. 15 Fatarians turned up for the friendly against an unknown team arranged through an online forum.

I have to admit that our opponent was not really strong; in fact some of their players seems to be called up last minute to fill up the numbers. Hence, a 3 nil scoreline was not really something to be proud of.

As some of the players do not know one another, there was not much strategy and tactics given. The objective was to really give them a run-out and analyse the individual's skills and game-play.

Warming up

Match gets underway

Showing good composure

The match started off well with Team FATA having more of the possessions. Few players were playing in unfamiliar positions, particular Zhen Hui as left-back, Kenneth as forward and Jin Hao as right-wing. Unfortunately, Kenneth and Jin Hao seems to be out of sort in the first half whereas Zhen Hui gave us an encouraging display. First half was ended with Siong Wei scoring the only goal with a close range shot.

Half Time

Significant events happened in the second half. First, Jason was booked for a sliding tackle which should not warrant a yellow card for me. It was a 50-50 and he went for the ball. It was a good defensive play by Jason, the slow-motion Defensive Midfielder who just seems to be able to control the midfield well yesterday.

Next is the yellow card for Sean who lost his cool after some nonsensical tackles by the opponent. To me, it was a thumbs up for the opponent who managed to force an opponent to blow his top without getting booked himself. This happens a lot of things in football. How often do you all notice Man Utd's opponent trying to force Rooney into blowing his top? "Beautiful" football does not exist anymore. Managers just want to win the game, irregardless of tactics used. But I have to agree that our opponents yesterday was kind of abusive with their choice of words used. I do not encourage Fatarians to take things with their own hands when the game is still in play. Let the referee do the job. If he fails to spot accurately, so be it; thats part and parcel of the game. End of 90min, its still a game and we are all playing football for the fun of it.

Second half ended with 2 more goals added, courtesy from William, our goalkeeper who took the penalty and Sean who did a half-volley from a cross from Jason.

Full time

An encouraging start for Team FATA and hopefully we would extend the win this Sunday against SKC.

1 FBT Blue Top - $15

I will work out the sum before letting you all know the amount to transfer, including our first friendly match fee.

The collection will be on the 17th, Saturday. Hopefully able to get Wee Hian to drive me. FBT will be at Upper Aljunied while Kappa at Queensway. Anyone wanna tag along?

Lastly, we might have one game against my friend's team in the SPF (Singapore Police Force). Last I heard was a fee of $8 a game at the Serangoon Stadium.

Can't wait to put on our jersey. Cheers.

Team Jerseys and Team Balls

Team FATA Official Balls
Dear all,

We have decided to get 1 Red Top, 1 Blue Top, 1 White Bottom and 1 White Socks. Negotiation is still in the progress with the supplier. Hopefully, it will be below $50. I will settle the payment first. Will collect from you guys when I pass you guys the jerseys.

With regards to the sizing, Wee Hian and me tried both size Small and size Large and we both concluded that size Small is just nice for us where size Medium is slightly big for us and a bit uncomfortable and looks kind of weird. Their smallest size is Small, so I will order size Small for all of you except Jason and Jin Hao because you 2 are taller than me. If anyone want size Medium too, let me know.

If anyone want to make a trip down to try out the size, inform me first. I will most probably place the order on Tuesday. (Who want to follow me go queensway?)

Supplier told us that it will takes between 1 to 2 weeks for the team jerseys to be ready upon payment. Hence, it might affect our targeted first friendly on the 18th of May. So, we have to shift back our first match to the 25th of May 08. Please let me know if you are available for match on the 25th of May, Sunday afternoon/evening.

Let me know if you are available and I will inform you if he needs players.

Thanks.

Sunday Kick-about

This Sunday we will have our usual kick-about at Bishan Park. This time round, we are meeting at AMK S-11 (Beside Mac) at 9am sharp. Tell me if you are going. Hope to get better attendance as we need more players to help season our team soccer ball which will be bought this Saturday. :)

Kappa Team Jersey

Few of us will be making a trip down to Queensway Shopping Centre this Saturday (Joel, Wee Hian, Siong Wei) to take a look at jersey, soccer balls and boots etc. The Kappa jersey which I have shown to you all via email is available at the Kappa shop there. We will take a closer look at their red and blue jersey, most probably we will get that as our team kit. Currently, it cost $35 for full set including printing of numbers and names. I am negotiating for lower price; in exchange we can do away with the printing of name and printing of number on shorts.

Should we confirm the jersey, I hope that you guys can make a trip down to Queensway one of these days to see the sizing for yourself before confirming with me. Siong Wei actually made a trip down yesterday to scout for new boots. He mentioned that the Adidas kit cost around $50. We are keeping our options open, will take look.

With regards to the team funds, I would need each of you to contribute a small amount for us to get few soccer balls. Any extra will goes into our match fees.

Last but not least, I am targeting to have our first competitive friendly match on the 18th of May 08. Till then, try to build up your stamina in the mean time. Have you been doing jogging lately? :D

Team FATA Profile

The idea of forming a soccer team came from a few Fatarians who would like to step out of the regular small kick-about to go into the Singapore Amateur Soccer games. Slowly and steadily, the glimpse of our own soccer team emerged as more and more Fatarians gave the nod. Finally, Team Fata was formed on the 15th of April 2008.

Fatarians are defined as players filled with passion and burning desire to play competitive soccer week in week out without fail.

Objective of this team are simple.
- To have fun!
- To satisfy our hunger for some ball kicking
- To relax and enjoy the company of close soccer khaki playing week in week out
- To play in competitive matches (Friendlies and League in Future)
- To play together as a team till our body tell us to stop

We are open to any friendly match. Feel free to contact us for a game.

What does FATA stands for?

Extracted from Wikipedia,

The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in Pakistan are areas of Pakistan outside the four provinces, comprising a region of some 27,220 km² (10,507 sq mi).

The FATA are bordered by: Afghanistan to the west with the border marked by the Durand Line, the North-West Frontier Province and the Punjab to the east, and Balochistan to the south.

The total population of the FATA was estimated in 2000 to be about 3,341,070 people, or roughly 2% of Pakistan's population. Only 3.1% of the population resides in established townships. It is the most rural administrative unit in Pakistan.
Of course that is bullshit. The FATA name comes about from most of the players' ex-unit in Army. Yes, most of the players are made up of personnel from a particular unit in the Army.
